Hair Transplant for Women

Female hair transplantation is a minimally invasive surgery that consists of extracting follicular units (a set of 1 to 4 or more hairs) from a donor area where the hair is denser and stronger, so that they can be implanted in the areas affected by hair loss.

As in men, hair loss and thinning in women can be caused by several factors, such as genetic predisposition, hormonal changes, inflammatory diseases, aging, hormonal imbalances, among several other causes. Therefore, early treatment of hair loss (alopecia) is of utmost importance, not only to treat the underlying problem but also to improve self-esteem. In this sense, hair transplantation in women, when correctly indicated and performed, can be an excellent option.

Hair Transplant Techniques

There are 2 hair transplant techniques used in Hera Derma Clinic: DHI and Sapphire FUE

  • The DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) technique is one of the most modern methods used today in hair transplant and/or implant surgeries. It consists of implanting the follicular units that were removed using the FUE technique. The implantation of the follicular units is done one by one, manually with a special pen (Choi implanter), resulting in naturalness and greater hair density. With the DHI technique, it is possible to tilt the Choi implanter in different directions (90º, 45º and 30º) following the direction of the native hair with the aim of obtaining natural results.
  • FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) is a hair transplant technique that involves extracting follicular units (i.e. the structures that contain hair) from donor areas (usually the back and sides of the head) and transplanting them to bald areas, delivering a natural-looking result. FUE is the most modern and least invasive hair transplant method in the world, as it does not require large incisions or sutures. With a highly qualified permanent technical team specialized exclusively in hair transplants, we ensure excellence in each stage of the procedure. We use advanced technologies, such as Sapphire blades to guarantee precision and natural results. In addition, we are strict with the density and angle of each implanted follicle, always thinking about the final result, which should bring volume and naturalness to the patient’s hair.

Post-Operative Care and Recovery of Hair Transplant For Women

The post-operative period and subsequent recovery process after the transplant is relatively simple and you will generally not feel any pain. After the transplant, the patient will return home the same day and will be able to carry out almost all of her daily activities. However, there are some precautions that must be taken, such as moisturizing the implanted follicles, avoiding intense exertion and avoiding possible trauma. It is important to follow the instructions that your doctor will give you, and you may be prescribed some medication, such as antibiotics or painkillers.

Since Hera Derma is a dermatology clinic, our specialist physicians perform the necessary medical follow-ups before and after your hair transplantation treatment, analyze your results with the necessary laboratory tests, and apply additional treatments that will support your process.

It is normal and likely that you may experience some edema (swelling) for the first 3 to 4 days after the transplant. During the first week, small scabs will also form, which will disappear after about 1 week.

During the first 15 days, it is recommended to avoid sun exposure, physical exercise and places such as swimming pools or saunas. After 15 days, you can resume your normal exercise routine, go to the beach or swimming pool, but it is recommended to avoid intense sun exposure without using sun protection.

Results In Female Hair Transplantation

The transplanted hair should fall out during the first 3 months, after which it will start to grow regularly. Between 4 and 6 months you will notice a significant improvement, but this will be more noticeable 12 to 18 months after the transplant.

It is important to note that in the first 2 months after the female transplant, the so-called “telogen shock” may occur, which consists of an increase in the generalized loss of hair (even non-transplanted hair) in the areas treated. This phenomenon is normal and self-limiting, and from the 3rd month onwards all hair should grow normally.

Hair transplantation is an effective and long-lasting solution for hair loss, providing natural results and significantly improving patients’ self-esteem. With modern techniques we use, it is possible to customize the procedure according to individual needs. If you are considering this option, schedule an appointment here at Hera Derma Clinic and consult our qualified specialists to assess your case and advise on the best approach.
